In Which We Look at a Rock

This last Saturday we decided to do something that wasn't too high-impact, as I've been having problems with one of my knees lately and it needed some rest. As such, we went down to one of the places we've known about since before we came here, but which we never got around to visiting. It's a rock called Oedolgae (pronounced "way-dole-gay"), and it turned out to be pretty cool. It wasn't completely crawling with tourists when we went, which was an added bonus. That's going to become less and less common now that the summer is coming.

At any rate, Oedolgae is a rock that stands off by itself off the coast of Seogwipo. It's tall and pretty cool looking. As with most things in Korea, it has like forty legends surrounding it. I'm too lazy to look them up and tell them to you right now. At any rate, it was a pretty good place for photos. Here they are:

The rock! There are a couple islands off the coast here, too, which make for pretty great views.

This is one of the better selfies I've managed in a while.

These flowers matched Nancy's shirt.

Some Korean drama was filmed here, so they have this cutout you can take your picture in.

Nancy with part of the coastline. The coast down on the south side of the island has a lot more cliffs than the north side. However, the north side makes up for it because we have more beaches.

Nancy was cold, and then she was hot, and then she was cold again, and then she was kind of hot, but not that hot, so she only took her sweatshirt halfway off.

Palm trees

I call this one "Lone Man with Greenery."

Over there you can see Saeseom, the island with the cool bridge that we went to a while back.

I call this one "Lone Woman on Rock with Island in Background." I never claimed to be profound.

Cool rock down in the water.

It was pretty windy. And don't worry, I'm getting a haircut this week.

Nancy said that this photo didn't quite conform to the vision she had of it. I think it looks
pretty good.
At any rate, that's Oedolgae. It was a fun outing and it was a really pleasant place on the coast.

I just have one quick anecdote to go with this post. On our way home from here, we stopped at E-mart, the department store, and Nancy saw some bras on sale for really cheap, so she was looking through them and chose a couple, which she threw in our shopping basket. We had noticed before how girls buying bras put them in small paper bags that the store had there next to the bin, for privacy, I guess. But, we didn't think they were required. However, while I was standing there with the basket waiting for Nancy while she looked, a store worker came over, took the bras out of our basket, and put them in a paper bag, her whole air proclaiming, "Have you no common decency?" I thought it was pretty funny, especially considering the fact that we were about ten feet from a mannequin wearing teal leopard-print lingerie. So, there's a fun glimpse into Korean culture.

That's about all I've got for this post. This is Captain Danger out.
